The Fred D. Carrigg Leadership Award to SPANNJ

The Fred D. Carrigg Leadership Award was presented to SPANNJ, the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network [which] empowers and supports families, and informs and involves professionals in the healthy development and education of children. SPANNJ has advocated tirelessly for language accessibility, special education, and immigrant rights for language minority parents. NJTESOL/NJBE applauds SPAN’s commitment  to all children and families, and appreciates their efforts on behalf of English Language Learners in New Jersey. Ms. Diane Autin, the executive co-director of this exemplary organization accepted the award on behalf of SPAN.

The President's Award to Elizabeth Claire

The President's Award was presented to Elizabeth Claire, who has been teaching ELLs for forty-four years. She received her BA from City College of NY, and her MA in TESOL from New York University. She has been a Spanish teacher, a bilingual teacher, a reading teacher, a mainstream English teacher, and for the past twenty years, a materials writer. Elizabeth has taught every grade level from pre-school to senior citizens. She has trained teachers in Japan, the Czech Republic, and at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Elizabeth is the author of twenty-six books in the field of TESOL, and is the editor, chief writer, and designer for Easy English NEWS, which to date has sold more than 5 million copies.
