A Few Tips for the Beginning of the Year

By Monica Schnee

W e have so many things to do as the year begins that I have to create a checklist in order to make sure that I do not forget any “essentials." If you are a teacher or a coordinator, you might find this checklist helpful:

Any errors on the ACCESS scores should have been reported already. If you were not able to see the reports until the beginning of the school year, you still should make sure they reflect your students’ performance and proficiency levels. If they are incorrect, speak to your supervisor or call Metritech directly. There will be a fee but it is worth it.
Make sure that your students’ data is entered correctly into your district’s database (LEP, name properly spelled, exit or declined services, in program).

If you have doubts on procedural and legalities, check the NJDOE site or contact them. Remember, after October 15th all data is submitted to NJSMART.
