Exciting News: Free one Year NJTESOL/NJBE Membership for Current College Students!

By Mary Curran

At the last NJTESOL/NJBE Executive Board Meeting members voted to begin offering a free, one-year student membership.  Eligible students must be either full or part-time students, who have never been a NJTESOL/NJBE member in the past.  Students must be recommended by one of their professors.  As student members, they will have access to the Hot List (an e-mail discussion list), VOICES newsletter, Chapter meetings, and a discount for conferences for one year.

The Board members made this decision to encourage student participation and help socialize new teachers into attending and contributing to their professional organizations. Membership in NJTESOL/NJBE is one way we can help new teachers build their networks, learn about innovations in the field, update themselves on current policies and practices, join advocacy initiatives, and much more. We urge teacher educators to encourage membership among their students.  You can do this by recommending each new cohort who enters your program.

Faculty members are to have each eligible student add his/her own name, email address and SIG choice(s) to the Faculty Recommendation Form for NJTESOL/NJBE Membership.  Once the form is completed, faculty member would mail in the completed & signed form.

Help your students apply for the free student memberships today!

*This free one year membership is available only through a Faculty Recommendation Form.  Please note that each recommended student must fill in their own name, email address, “Y” or “N” for listserv, & Special Interest Group (SIG) choices.
